Introduction to Google Slides


What is Google Drive?

Google Drive is a free Web-based application in which users can store files in the cloud, share files, and edit with collaborators.

You can install the app on your tablet, and smartphone to access your files, or you can access them directly on the web by logging into your account.

Google Drive encompasses all of the G Suite apps and permits collaborative editing of documents, spreadsheets, presentations, drawings, forms, and more.

​How to Access Google Drive in the DPCDSB        


STEP 1

​When logged into Google, click on the Google Apps icon (looks like a waffle or a 3 x 3 box grid) and can be found on the top right corner of the Google Homepage.

Then, you will see a pop up displaying the more frequently used apps that are part of the G Suite with the DPCDSB.

​Click on the Slides icon.

Create a New Presentation


  • To start a new presentation select Blank or one of the prepared templates.

Create & Upload Files


STEP 1

Click NEW to view the type of documents you can create.

​Then, to create a document, select the document type to open its interface.

Alternatively, to upload a document, select File Upload.

Alternatively, to upload a document, select File Upload.

Then, type the name of the file in the File name bar.

Then, select Open.

Create a Shareable Link in Google Drive


STEP 1

​Click on the file you wish to share by click on the file.

​In the top right corner, click on the Get shareable link icon.

​Then, select click on the sharing tab to turn sharing on.

Then, you will receive a shareable link.

​To edit the sharing permissions, select Sharing settings.

​Then select, the drop down that is defaulted to the option can view.

​Then select, the Link sharing option that you desire from the listed options and click on Save.

To change permission of what people can do that have access to the file select the defaulted option: can view.

Then you will have the options of:
  • ​Can edit
  • Can comment
  • Can view

Send an Invitation to Share in Google Drive


​STEP 1

​Click on the file you wish to share by click on the file.

​STEP 2

​In the top right corner, click on the Share icon.

​STEP 3

In the people bar, simply type the name of the person(s) you wish to share and the person(s) email will appear.

Select Done when finished.

​Names can include staff and students.

STEP 4

If you wish to change the permission settings select, the drop down that is defaulted to the option can view.

Then you will have the options of:

  • Can edit
  • Can comment
  • Can view
